The Wrestler - Mickey Rourke: the new MK?

Ribbed Henleys, Fur Vests, Plaid Shirts and Tight Pants... Not to mention the excessive layering. What more could we ask for? On a side note, the film is amazing. And believe me, I take no pleasure in watching wrestling. Darren Aronofsky has created a profound and detailed film about the decaying life of a man who lives soley for that which silmultaneously destroys him. (Parallel Rourke's own life much?) Rourke's performance is flawless. Marisa Tomei's performance is sublime. And Aronofsky's directing and cinematography is brilliant.

"There's a credit crunch, not a creative crunch. Of course, everyone is being more careful with their discretionary purchases. I am. But it's our job to make people dream, and to provide the value in quality, cut, and imagination."-John Galliano

gender bending continued

The conversation with Mags here and here is not over...
We are continually fascinated by the abundance of "cross-dressing" taking place in the world of fashion right now. Vogue Paris continues to produce editorials that comment on the highly performative aspect of gender. Alongside Lacan, Butler and Pollock, Roitfeld and her team are certainly making their mark in the field of gender studies.

the ultimate grow-out à la vanessa paradis

Continuing Mags' recent post on dark-roots; the faux-natural grow-out trend we love so much. Although the latter image might be SLIGHTLY exaggerated...

On another note, here's a pic of young Vanessa and our favourite french Homme, Serge Gainsbourg. It never ceases to amaze me how flawlessly his style transcends time and space. Talk about a certain je ne sais quoi.

seeing red

There are very few colours we will incorporate into our usually all-black/grey/beige wardrobes. *Note Mags' excellent example of this. But a pop of red on the lips or legs definitely gets our styledby approval.

celestine cooney

We discovered this london-based stylist in pictures outside the fall 07 Paris shows and instantly took a liking to her personal aesthetic. She recently made an appearance on garance dore and subsequently vogue.fr. So if you haven't already seen her, we're glad to have introduced you. Below is some of her work which is as whimsical and inspiring as her street style.

The supers

One of my favorite blogs is The Cut. Every month they create a slide show of the best and worst of fashion magazines.  As soon as I saw the photos they had from this Korean Vogue editorial I had to see the rest of it. Pretty cool.
